The $2 million investment will help increase camp capacity, enabling more Albertans to enjoy the incredible gift of our province’s outdoors.
CALGARY, August 18, 2022 – YMCA Calgary is thrilled to announce that the Government of Alberta is investing $2 million in Camp Chief Hector (CCH) in Alberta’s Kananaskis region. This capital investment will ensure that future generations can safely use CCH’s facilities and thousands of Alberta children and families can continue building lasting memories, life skills and leadership skills. Once complete, the estimated $14.5 million CCH revitalization will allow YMCA Calgary to serve nearly 14,000 campers annually.
The Government of Alberta’s initial investment – part of YMCA Calgary’s larger fundraising campaign for the revitalization of CCH – also supports the creation of hundreds of construction jobs and contributes to Alberta’s recreation and cultural sector, which helps solidify Alberta’s reputation as a world-class jurisdiction to live and do business in.
Experiences in the natural world are fundamental to our overall health and well-being. We know this is needed by children and youth now more than ever and investing in Camp Chief Hector will ensure we can continue providing youth leadership and outdoor experiences long into the future.

The Government of Alberta’s $2 million contribution is from a $1 million grant from the Community Facility Enhancement Program and $1 million from support for cultural infrastructure in the 2022 Capital Plan.
