The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, colloquially known as Orange Shirt Day, is held annually on September 30th, and is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind.  

This year, Calgary Pride is taking place from August 26 – September 5. Pride is a movement that allows us to not only celebrate our diversity, but also acknowledge the contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, learn about the history of Pride, and continue to learn about DEI initiatives.

The $2 million investment will help increase camp capacity, enabling more Albertans to enjoy the incredible gift of our province’s outdoors.  

For over 15 years, YMCA Calgary has partnered with YMCA Ukraine to promote youth development opportunities and learn from one another, as we aspire to make our communities better for future generations.

This Canada Day, YMCA Canada is reflecting on this moment in time, the state of our country, and the world. From the work to support refugees who continue to flee from countries like Ukraine and Afghanistan, to divisions around COVID-19 safety protections, and continued inequities in our society, it is clear that many challenges lie ahead of us.

The month of June is National Indigenous History Month, a month to recognize and celebrate the history, culture, and diversity of the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people of Canada. On June 21, the summer solstice, Canada celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day with hundreds of events and festivities to recognize the many achievements of Indigenous People in Canada.
